The departure of Jose Mourinho from Manchester United seems inevitable, given poor recent results and the fact that in his third season they sit in eighth position in the Premier League with a goal difference of minus one. The question of who shall replace him is a genuine concern for most United fans; both pro and anti Mourinho
Jorge Sampaoli: (I know, I know but just bare with me.)
Despite the Argentine's failure to maintain even the respect of the national team squad in the World Cup last summer, the fact that he lead Chile to two consecutive Copa America Titles (their only titles to date) shouldn't count for nothing. Not to mention that he would oversee a return to the entertainment days of Sir Alex and Sir Matt. His high intensity attacking football is something the Old Trafford crowd have longed for since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.
The concern with Sampaoli is as I have already mentioned, his failure in the World Cup to maintain control of the dressing room.
Antonio Conte: (No! No! No! No! No! No!)
Admittedly the Italian does have obvious Premiership pedigree, having won with Chelsea back in 2016/17. He oversaw a switch from the 4-3-3 used by Jose Mourinho to a 3-4-3 which gave less defensive duties to his Forwards, by adding an extra man at the back. A change which made Chelsea almost unbeatable during his first season.
On the flip side, the 2017/18 season saw a dramatic downfall in the situation. Conte fell out with the board over transfers. He also fell out with some of the players like David Luiz, his signings didn't really improve the team and Chelsea looked like a shadow of the team that they had been the previous season; limping to fifth place and out of the Champions league spots. It got to the point that when he finally left at the end of the season
Okay I realize I am sounding like a bit of a hypocrite here; Conte lost the players, so did Sampaoli, so why would I want Sampaoli over Conte? Well the reason is simply style. Sampaoli's teams indulge in fast attacking football, fast interplay and a forward thinking mentality all making for an exciting spectacle. This is a value that is ingrained, for better or worse, in Manchester United. Conte on the other hand has a more conservative way of playing that echo's that of Jose Mourinho.
Leonardo Jardim: (A bit risky but surely at the very least it'll be exciting).
The Portuguese manager took Monaco to Ligue 1 glory in 2017 at the expense of powerhouse Paris Saint Germain. He also took them to the Champions League Semi Final. All of this achieved by playing an exciting 4-4-2 formation.
However upon being sacked a season and a few months afterwards, the club were third from bottom in the League. However, this could be attributed to the loss of key names such as Benjamin Mendy, Thomas Lemar, Bernardo Silva, Fabinho and in particular Kylian M'Bappe. However, with interest from Real Madrid and Aston Villa, Man Utd will have to sack Jose Mourinho now if they want to acquire him.
Zinedine Zidane: (Will it happen though?)
Now for the most popular one. Zidane took Real Madrid to three successive Champions League triumphs (something which hasn't been achieved since the 1970s). For those who say that it's down to the players he had should remember that it was his tactical changes that improved the performances at the Bernabeau.
As for whether it will happen, Zizou's son has already said that his father will come back to management soon, but will that necessarily mean Man Utd? Let's be honest the way the club is run is atrocious and there are much better run clubs like Bayern Munich who have expressed interest in Zidane.
