Hendon progress past the 2nd round of the London senior cup at the cost of Leyton Orient thanks to a 32nd goal from Connor Calcutt. The game itself was an even contest with neither side really able to dominate possession of the ball. Hendon’s opposition, League Two side Leyton Orient, took to the pitch with senior players Arthur Janata, Jayden Sweeney, former Hendon player Jamie Turley and Shadrach Ogie.
The first twenty minute were rather uneventful, Sharon Ifeanyi’s dribble in the 13th minute proving one of the few moments of note. The first clear chance of the game came from Turley in the 21st minute who headed a free kick just wide of the post only for the linesman to flag for offside anyway. In the 27th minute Hendon’s Kameron English on the counter sprinted down the centre of the pitch and passed to Sergio Manesio on the left wing who forces a save from Janata. Five minutes later, Calcutt receives the ball from Reece Mitchel in the box, he beats the defender and slots the ball home, 1-0. Hendon were now playing the better football. In the 40th minute Issac Galliford hitting a shot straight at Janata, and then moments later Calcutt had a chance right in front of the Leyton goal. Trying to back heel it in he missed the ball completely.
In the second half, once again, neither team was really able to dominate. In the 60th minute Jordan Adeyemi ran through for Leyton Orient and hit his shot wide. Hendon began to push forward more, but once again chances were few. The best chance for Leyton came in the 80th minute when Ifeanyi, on the counter attack shot straight at Grace from the right wing. The best chance for Hendon came four minutes later when Galliford crossed in and substitute Tahjae Anderson couldn’t quite get there. Nonetheless in the closing stages Hendon put the Leyton Orient goal under siege for the last few minutes of the game. Nonetheless when the final whistle blew the score remained the same as it had done at half time, 1-0, and Hendon were through to the next round.
